White Sox To Face Rich Hill After Sonny Gray Scratched With Food Poisoning

(CBS) The White Sox won't have to face an opposing ace on Opening Day.

Athletics right-hander Sonny Gray has been scratched from Monday night's opener in Oakland with food poisoning, the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser reported. In his place, left-hander Rich Hill will take the mound.

Hill -- who played for the Cubs from 2005-'08 -- was 2-1 with a 1.55 ERA in 29 innings for the Red Sox in 2015, when he started four games. Gray was third in the AL Cy Young voting last season after going 14-7 with a 2.73 ERA.

Chris Sale is slated to start for the White Sox.
