White Sox Sign Reliever Matt Albers To 1-Year Deal

(CBS) The White Sox and right-handed reliever Matt Albers have agreed on a one-year, $2.25-million deal that includes an option for the 2017 season. Albers will be paid $2 million in 2016, with a $250,000 buyout for 2017 if the team doesn't pick up his $3 million salary.

The 33-year-old Albers went 2-0 with a 1.21 ERA and 1.07 WHIP in 37 1/3 innings in 2015. That was his first season with the White Sox, as he made the club after being a non-roster invitee to spring training. He was out nearly three months with a broken right pinky finger, but he finished the season by firing 22 1/3 straight scoreless innings.

Albers has a career 4.20 ERA, having spent time with the Astros, Orioles, Red Sox, Diamondbacks and Indians as well.
