White Sox Send Down Phegley, 5 Others

(CBS) The White Sox made six roster moves prior to Wednesday's exhibition game, most notably sending down catcher Josh Phegley to Triple-AAA.

Phegley was in the mix for the starting job throughout spring training, but manager Robin Ventura confirmed a couple days ago that Tyler Flowers had won the job. Now, Phegley won't even make the big league Opening Day roster.

Phegley batted .206 with a .299 slugging percentage in 65 games for Chicago last season.

The White Sox also optioned right-hander Andre Rienzo and left-hander Eric Surkamp to Triple-A. Right-hander Chris Beck, infielder Andy Wilkins and right-hander Cody Winiarski were all sent down to minor league camp as well.
