White Sox Prospect Erik Johnson Named International League's Most Valuable Pitcher

(CBS) White Sox prospect and Triple-A Charlotte right-hander Erik Johnson has been named the International League's Most Valuable Pitcher.

Johnson, 25, leads the International League in ERA (2.37), strikeouts (136) and WHIP (1.12). He's 11-8 on the season and has held opponents to a .224 average.

Johnson was a second-round draft pick in 2011. He's on Chicago's 40-man roster and almost certainly will get a September call-up and a few starts. He also figures to compete for a rotation spot for the 2016 White Sox.
