White Sox Players Take Military Children Fishing
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Children of men and women serving in the military were treated to a morning of fishing on Thursday with members of the Chicago White Sox.
Kids were catching gobies along a dock at Burnham Harbor, as they cast lines with Sox players Zach Duke, Adam Eaton, Adam LaRoche, and Tyler Saladino.
There was a little friendly competition among the players and kids.
"It was first fish. I think we just lost it," LaRoche said.
Dena Provenzano brought her daughter from Darien.
"A lot of the sports teams really do a lot to support military families, and we appreciate that so much," she said.
The fishing event was part of Sox Serve Week, an annual weeklong initiative to give back to the community. The White Sox teamed up with the USO and the Chicago Park District for Thursday's Gone Fishing event. Other events this week have included raffles, creating a local Field of Dreams for special needs children, and players from the team's Amateur City Elite training program being made honorary members of the White Sox.
