White Sox Place C Kevan Smith On 15-Day DL

(CBS) Already without catcher Alex Avila, the White Sox have lost another backstop.

One night after experiencing back spasms and being scratched just before making his big league debut, catcher Kevan Smith was placed on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with what the team termed sacroiliac joint dysfunction. In a corresponding move, the White Sox promoted catcher Hector Sanchez from Triple-A Charlotte.

The 26-year-old Sanchez was hitting .143 with two homers and three RBIs in eight games at Charlotte this season.

Dioner Navarro is scheduled to start at catcher in Tuesday's road contest against the Blue Jays.
