White Sox Place Austin Jackson On DL With Medial Meniscus Tear

(CBS) The White Sox will be moving on in this critical stretch without their starting center fielder, as Austin Jackson was placed on the 15-day disabled list with a medial meniscus tear in his right knee.

Jackson will require surgery and is expected to miss at least six weeks, White Sox general manager Rick Hahn told reporters Friday.

In place of Jackson, the White Sox have recalled outfielder Jason Coats from Triple-A Charlotte.

Jackson, 29, is hitting .254 with 18 RBIs this season. He has started 52 games in center field this season.

Coats made his major league debut last Friday in the White Sox's loss to the Tigers in Detroit.

Additionally, the White Sox announced that pitchers Daniel Webb and Jake Petricka each had season-ending surgeries Friday. Webb's surgery was Tommy John.

The White Sox host a three-game series with the Royals this weekend at U.S. Cellular Field.
