White Sox Place Alex Avila On Disabled List

(CBS) The White Sox have placed catcher Alex Avila on the 15-day disabled list with a strained right hamstring.

In order to fill their roster, the White Sox have purchased the contract of catcher Omar Narvaez from Triple-A Charlotte.

Naraez, 24, is hitting .239 in 54 games this season with Charlotte and Double-A Birmingham. He has two home runs and 16 RBIs.

Additionally, the White Sox moved pitcher Jake Petricka to the 60-day DL. Petricka had surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right hip.

Avila was injured late in the White Sox's loss to the Yankees on Tuesday night. The White Sox host the Yankees for the finale of their pregame series on Wednesday, with first pitch coming at 7:10 p.m. from U.S. Cellular Field.
