CHICAGO (CBS) -- White Sox manager Tony La Russa will be out indefinitely, while undergoing further testing for an unspecified medical issue.

After already missing Tuesday night's game against the Royals, La Russa, 77, will undergo additional testing in Arizona with his personal doctors, the team confirmed Wednesday afternoon.

Bench coach Miguel Cairo filled in as manager Tuesday night, and will continue managing the team while La Russa is out.

CBS 2's Matt Zahn checked in with the White Sox on Wednesday to see how the team is dealing without their manager.

Cairo said La Russa seemed fine just before leaving ahead of Tuesday night's game. As for the team, they're trying to turn things around on the field while thinking about their manager.

"We're going to be praying for him," Cairo said. "I'm going to be praying for him, that everything is fine. You know we got to go out there and perform ... We got to do it for him."

Outfielder Gavin Sheets said he's also praying for La Russa to have a "quick recovery."

"We don't know the full details of what's going on," Sheets added. "But most importantly, we want to get some wins ... so when [La Russa] gets back, whenever that is, hopefully we'll be in a better sport going for the playoffs."
