White Sox Make 2 Additions As Rosters Expand

(CBS) The White Sox on Thursday called up catch Kevan Smith and right-hander Juan Minaya from Triple-A Charlotte as rosters expanded.

The 26-year-old Smith hit .219 with eight homers and 24 RBIs in 49 games at Triple-A. He's never played in the big leagues before, suffering an injury shortly after being called up in April.

The 25-year-old Minaya was 4-3 with a 3.38 ERA and one save in 17 relief appearances for Charlotte, limiting right-handed batters to a .159 batting average. The White Sox acquired him off waivers from the Astros on June 22. He will also be making his MLB debut whenever he takes the field.

Additionally, Chicago sent right-hander Miguel Gonzalez to Triple-A on an injury rehab assignment. He's been recovering from a strained right groin.
