White Sox Draft LHP Carlos Rodon At No. 3 Overall

(CBS) -- The Chicago White Sox selected left-handed pitcher Carlos Rodon with the third overall pick in Thursday's MLB First-Year Player Draft.

A Holly Springs, N.C., native, Rodon was considered by some evaluators to be the top prospect in the draft, but he fell a couple spots when the Astros and Marlins each went with high school pitchers before the White Sox. The 6-foot-3, 235-pound Rodon was 6-7 with a 2.01 ERA and struck out 117 in 98 2/3 innings for the Wolfpack this past season. He has a fastball that consistently reaches the mid-90s and also a quality slider.

Rodon went 10-3 with a 2.99 ERA in 19 starts as a sophomore in 2013. He struck out 184 and walked 45.

Rodon is the highest draft pick by the White Sox since the team selected Harold Baines No. 1 overall in 1977.
