White Sox Catcher Alex Avila Beginning Rehab Assignment

(CBS) White Sox catcher Alex Avila is beginning a rehab assignment at Triple-A Charlotte on Monday night.

Avila has been out since July 5 with a hamstring injury. He'd previously made an attempt at a comeback from this hamstring injury in July but aggravated it further.

Avila is hitting .236 with three homers, six RBIs and a .720 OPS in 41 games with the White Sox this season.

In other news, second baseman Brett Lawrie is return to Chicago for further evaluation on his injured hamstring. He hasn't played since July 21.
