White Sox Call Up Miguel Gonzalez, Activate Alex Avila From DL

(CBS) The White Sox have officially called up right-hander Miguel Gonzalez from Triple-A Charlotte and also activated catcher Alex Avila from the 15-day disabled list.

Gonzalez will make his scheduled start at Texas on Monday night as Chicago continues to search for a No. 5 starter after designating left-hander John Danks for assignment last week. Gonzalez has made one start for the White Sox this season, allowing five runs in 5 1/3 innings against the Blue Jays on April 25. He was 1-0 with a 2.65 ERA in four starts at Triple-A this season.

Avila had been on the DL since April 24 with a strained right hamstring. He's hitting .214 in 10 games this season. In a corresponding move, Chicago also designated catcher Hector Sanchez for assignment. He appeared in two games for the White Sox, going 1-for-7 at the plate.
