White Sox Activate Jake Petricka, Officially Call Up Carlos Rodon

(CBS) The White Sox on Monday morning activated reliever Jake Petricka from the 15-day disabled list and officially called up prized prospect Carlos Rodon from Triple-A Charlotte.

Additionally, Chicago placed right-handed reliever Javy Guerra on the 15-day DL with right shoulder inflammation. The move is retroactive to April 13. The White Sox also designated right-hander Kyle Drabek for assignment.

The return of Petricka is important, as he's expected to be the right-handed setup man alongside lefty Zach Duke. Petricka, 26, had been on the DL with a right forearm strain. He had a 2.96 ERA in 73 innings in 2014.

Rodon, 22, will initially pitch out of the bullpen, though his future is in the rotation. He was the third overall pick in the 2014 amateur draft, and he was 1-0 with a 3.60 ERA at Triple-A this season, including 13 strikeouts in two starts. He'll wear No. 55.

Guerra had thrown 1 2/3 scoreless innings in three appearances for Chicago this season. Drabek had a 5.06 ERA in 5 1/3 innings over three appearances this year after he was claimed off waivers from Toronto in late March.
