White Palace Grill Temporarily Shut Down Due To Investigation Involving Department Of Buildings, Other Agencies

CHICAGO (CBS) -- The popular White Palace Grill in the South Loop has been temporarily shut down amid an investigation that has involved multiple city agencies.

On its Facebook Page, the diner at 1159 S. Canal St. said it had temporarily closed "to address notices received about building violations." The Facebook post was not more specific.

The Department of Business Affairs and Consumer Protection said the investigation into the White Palace Grill involved BACP itself, the Department of Buildings, and Chicago Police. The department did not release further details Tuesday night.

Chicago Police said they were present for security rather than having an actual role in the investigation.

The 24-hour diner has been in operation since 1939 at the northeast corner of Canal Street and Roosevelt Road.
