When It Comes To Tipping, Chicago Is Tip-Top

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Chicagoans rank among the most generous in the nation when it comes to leaving tips.

According to an analysis of data from the pay service Square, the average Chicagoan tips 16.7 percent, which ranks No. 2 in the United States behind Denver (16.8 percent).

The average U.S. tip is 16.1 percent, according to the Square analysis.

Illinois also has the highest percentage of tippers among all 50 states at 61.1 percent.

Illinois residents tip an average of 16.5 percent.

The people of Alaska are the most generous, tipping 17 percent on average.

Folks in Delaware are stingy. Only 38 percent actually tip, and the average tip is 14 percent.
