West Side Pastor Delivers First Sermon Since Lung Transplant

(CBS) -- A West Side minister delivered his first sermon Sunday after a double lung transplant last month.

Pastor Joseph Kyles of the Promise Church of Chicago says it's a true miracle that he is back to deliver a sermon since his surgery in February.

"I don't think there could be a better day to do this than Resurrection Sunday because truly I have been resurrected and this is just a demonstration of that," Pastor Kyles said.

He says he put his name on the list for donor lungs and eight days later doctors found him a matching pair.

Kyles has to wear a mask when he's around large groups of people to keep him from getting an infection as he continues to heal.

He was diagnosed 10 years ago with interstitial pulmonary fibroses or IPF and says at the time it would have been way too costly to have a transplant.

He tells WBBM his Easter Sunday sermon was all about resurrection, from the Biblical perspective but also from his own personal experience.
