Man Stabbed During Attempted Robbery In West Loop

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A man was stabbed during an attempted robbery late Sunday on the Washington Street Bridge in the West Loop.

The 49-year-old man was standing on the bridge about 11:30 p.m. in the 400 block of West Washington when another man walked up and announced a robbery, according to Chicago Police.

The man then stabbed the victim in the abdomen with a knife, before trying to run away, police said. The victim was able to subdue the man and keep him at the scene until officers arrived.

The victim was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said. The would-be robber was taken into custody and charges were pending early Monday.
