Weekend Snowstorm Could Dump Up To 10 Inches South Of City; 4 To 6 In Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A weekend snowstorm could bring as much as 10 inches of snow in the southern suburbs, with 4-6 inches likely in the city.

Accuweather is forecasting a total of 6 to 10 inches of snow from Saturday night through Sunday night. Meteorologist Bill Deger reports the snow likely will begin falling not long after sunset Saturday, and continue off and on through Sunday evening.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Watch from 9 p.m. Saturday through 6 a.m. Monday.

According to the National Weather Service, there is a potential for more than 8 inches of snow in areas south of Interstate 88, and possibly more than 6 inches north of I-88.

In addition, heavy snowfall could reduce visibility to less than a mile at times.

CBS 2 Meteorologist Megan Glaros reports the heaviest accumulations will be far south of the city, south of Kankakee, and around Peoria.

Kankakee, Will, Grundy, Kendall, LaSalle, DuPage, Kane, DeKalb, and southern Cook counties will likely get 4-6 inches.

Northern Cook County, and small parts of northern DuPage, northern Kane, and northern DeKalb counties likely will get 3-4 inches, and Lake, McHenry, and Boone counties likely will get 2-3 inches.

The city likely will see 3-6 inches of snow by the time the storm ends.

Most of northwest Indiana likely will see 4-6 inches.

Temperatures will reach a high in the low 30s on Saturday, and will only reach about 25 on Sunday.
