7 dead, 18 wounded in weekend shootings across Chicago

CHICAGO (CBS) – At least seven people are dead, and 18 others were wounded in shootings across Chicago over the weekend. The ages of the victims range from 14 to 56.

In the first shooting of the weekend, a 25-year-old man suffered a gunshot wound to the stomach and thigh Friday, in the 7000 block of South Eggleston around 7:10 p.m.

Police say the victim was involved in a narcotics-related transaction when the offender produced a handgun and fired shots striking the victim.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in critical condition and was later pronounced dead.

A 26-year-old male was shot while standing in the street in the 10100 block of South Calhoun Friday around 5:56 p.m.

A dark-colored vehicle pulled up and an occupant exited the vehicle and shot the victim in the arm, according to police.

The victim was transported to the University of Chicago Hospital in good condition.

A 14-year-old boy is shot while walking in the 6500 block of South Ingleside Friday night.

The teen was walking down the street around 7:54 p.m. when an unknown foot on foot was walking toward the victim, produced a handgun, and fired shots -- striking the victim.

The teen was transported to Comer's Children's Hospital in good condition with a grazed gunshot wound to the left abdomen.

A 38-year-old man was shot while standing outside Saturday morning, in the 800 block of East 79th Street.

Police said the victim was standing outside around 2:18 a.m. when he was shot at by an offender traveling in an unidentified vehicle that fled the scene.

The victim suffered gunshot wounds to the head and back and was transported to U of C in critical condition.

In other shootings from 5 p.m. Friday to 5 a.m. Monday:

·       At 8:49 p.m. Saturday, in the 4000 block of West Potomac, a man, 47, was standing outside when a vehicle approached with an unknown male offender in it who fired one shot at the victim – striking him in the back before fleeing. The victim was transported to Stroger Hospital in serious condition.

·       At 5:17 p.m. Saturday, In the 600 block of South California Avenue, a 56-year-old man was on the sidewalk when an unknown vehicle pulled up and an unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots at the victim. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported to Mount Sinai Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

·        At 5:23 p.m. Saturday, in the 11600 block of South Normal Avenue, a 26-year-old man was on the front porch of a residence when an unknown offender approached, produced a firearm, and fired shots at the victim -- striking him in the right leg. The victim was transported to Christ Hospital in good condition.

·       At 6:57 p.m. Saturday, in the 3700 block of South Princeton, a 30-year-old man was inside of a vehicle parked on the street when an unknown vehicle drove by and an unknown offender inside the vehicle produced a firearm and fired shots. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the right side and self-transported to the University of Chicago Hospital where he was listed in good condition. 

·       At 7:50 p.m. Saturday, in the 1300 block of North Homan, a 17-year-old boy suffered a gunshot wound to the groin by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to Norwegian Hospital in good condition.

·        At 7:45 p.m. Saturday, in the 800 block of East 79th Street, a 27-year-old man was on the street when he sustained a gunshot wound to the right arm by an unknown offender. The victim was transported to U of C Hospital in good condition. 

·       At 11:35 p.m. Saturday, in the 3900 block of West Wilcox, a group of individuals were sitting on the porch when a fight ensued and an unknown person on the porch began firing shots striking a man, 27, and woman in her mid-20s. The woman suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was transported by CFD to Mt Sinai Hospital in critical condition where she was pronounced dead a short time later. The man was shot in the mouth and was also transported to Mt Sinai hospital in good condition.

·       At 11:55 p.m. Saturday, in the 1300 block of East 76th Street, officers responded to shots fired in the area and discovered a man in the alley on the ground with multiple gunshot wounds to the head and body. The victim, 31, suffered a gunshot wound to the head and five shots to the back and was transported by CFD to U of C Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later. A weapon was recovered from the scene.

·       At 11:31 p.m., in the 3700 block of West Jackson, a man, 20 was a passenger in a vehicle going eastbound on Jackson when shots were fired, and the victim was struck. The victim suffered a gunshot wound to the left eye and was transported to Mt Sinai hospital by CFD in critical condition. 

·       At 12 a.m. Sunday, in the 1800 block of south Pulaski Road, a man, 30, was a passenger in a vehicle when an unknown vehicle approached and fired shots into the vehicle. The victim sustained eight gunshot wounds to the body and was dropped off at Mt Sinai hospital in good condition. The victim was very uncooperative with officers about the incident and refused to answer any questions.

·       At 11:45 p.m. Saturday, in the 2200 block of South Sawyer, a man, 22, was on the sidewalk when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to the right foot and was transported to Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition. The victim was very uncooperative with police officers on the scene about the incident. 

·       At 2:29 a.m. Sunday, in the 5400 block of South Shields, a 19-year-old man was walking on the sidewalk when a grey sedan approached and someone unknown began shooting from the vehicle. The victim sustained a gunshot wound to both legs and was transported by CFD to U of C Hospital in good condition.

·       At 2:38 a.m. Sunday, in the 800 block of South Albany, two males were in a vehicle southbound when a red SUV approached, and an unknown offender began firing shots into the vehicle. The victims then both returned fire and the red SUV fled the scene. One of the victims, 28, was shot in the head and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later. The second victim, 25, was shot in the right upper back and was transported to Stroger Hospital in critical condition where he was also later pronounced dead. Two handguns were recovered. 

·        At 7:31 a.m. Sunday, in the 10400 block of South Corliss, a 44-year-old man was found with multiple gunshot wounds to the body. The victim was pronounced on the scene. The circumstances are unknown at this time. 

·        At 10:56 a.m. Sunday, in the 700 block of East Midway Plaisance, a 26-year-old man was driving down the street, when someone in another vehicle shot him in the upper left thigh. The victim drove himself to University of Chicago Medical Center.

·        At 12:40 p.m. Sunday, in the 7000 block of South St. Lawrence, a 19-year-old man was sleeping in a parked car, when someone shot him in the hand. He was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

·        At 6:48 p.m. Sunday, in the 9100 block of South University Avenue, a 36-yea-rold man was on the street, when he suffered a graze wound to the left arm. He declined medical attention.

·        At 9:11 p.m. Sunday, a 17-year-old girl was in the vehicle, when she heard shots and felt pain. She was taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

·        At 10:25 p.m. Sunday, a male victim was sitting on a porch in the 11300 block of South Aberdeen, when a gunman approached and shot him in the lower left leg. The victim was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in good condition.
