2 Killed, 9 Wounded In Wednesday Shootings Across Chicago

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two people were killed and at least nine others were wounded in less than nine hours of shootings across the South and West sides Wednesday.

An 18-year-old man was shot to death in West Englewood about 8:10 p.m. Lewis Johnson was shot several times in the abdomen in the 7200 block of South Marshfield, police and the Cook County medical examiner's office said.

Johnson, who lived in the same block, was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was pronounced dead at 8:43 p.m., authorities said.

A 34-year-old man was shot to death Wednesday afternoon in the Humboldt Park neighborhood on the West Side.

Officers responded to a call of a person shot in the 3300 block of West Ohio about 1:40 p.m. and found Lanarris Webster with a gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, according to police and the medical examiner's office.

Webster was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:15 p.m., authorities said. He lived in the 3500 block of West Belle Plaine Avenue.

The most recent nonfatal shooting left a man seriously wounded in Bronzeville.

The 37-year-old was sitting in a parked car about 9:35 p.m. in the 4400 block of South Prairie when someone walked up and shot him in the left side of his neck, police said.

He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious condition, police said.

About 9:15 p.m., a man and woman were shot in the Roseland neighborhood on the South Side.

The two were in a vehicle traveling west in the 600 block of East 95th Street when they both heard gunfire and realized they'd been shot, police said.

Both were taken to Christ Medical Center, where their conditions stabilized, police said. The woman, 21, was shot in the left shoulder and left arm. The man, 25, was also shot in the left arm.

About 6:30 p.m., a 22-year-old man was shot in the hip in the 300 block of East 47th Street in Bronzeville. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital where his condition stabilized, police said.

About five minutes earlier, a 33-year-old man was shot in the buttocks as he was walking in the 900 block of North Massasoit, according to police. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized.

A 22-year-old man was outside about 5:45 p.m. in the 1100 block of South Troy when a light-colored car sped against traffic southbound on the one-way street and someone inside opened fire, according to police.

The man was shot in the left shoulder. He took himself to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was listed in serious condition.

About 2:40 p.m., a 21-year-old was outside in the 1300 block of West 77th Street when two vehicles pulled up to him and at least one person inside one of the cars opened fire, according to police.

He was shot in the abdomen and taken to Christ Medical Center, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

A 16-year-old boy was critically wounded in a drive-by shooting Wednesday afternoon in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the West Side.

He was sitting on the corner in the 1300 block of South Homan at 12:57 p.m. when a dark vehicle approached and someone inside opened fire, according to police.

The boy was shot in the chest, buttocks and heel. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in guarded condition, police said.

Fifteen minutes earlier, a 16-year-old boy was shot several times in the South Shore neighborhood, about six blocks from where Chicago Police officials were conducting a press conference about summer safety measures.

About 12:45 p.m., the teen was outside in the 2100 block of East 71st Street when a minivan pulled up, and someone got out with a gun and opened fire, according to Chicago Police.

The boy, who police said has documented gang ties, was shot in the abdomen and suffered graze wounds to the buttocks and head. He was taken to Comer Children's Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.

About 10 minutes before the shooting, Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson started a press conference on the department's summer deployment initiative at the South Shore Country Club at 7059 S. South Shore Dr., just six blocks away.
