Weather Roller Coaster Ahead For Chicago Area

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Sunny and pleasant, rainy and windy, cold and brisk; Chicago will have a taste of all kinds of weather over the next week.

Tuesday will be a typically bright but chilly fall day for the Chicago area, with temperatures topping out in the mid 50s, and clear skies all day.

The weather should get even better to start the day on Wednesday, with temperatures reaching the low 60s in the afternoon, before a fall storm brings a threat of severe weather. According to the National Weather Service, there is a slight risk of severe weather in the Chicago area Wednesday night, including heavy showers and isolated thunderstorms, and possible wind gusts of up to 60 mph.

However, the highest risk of severe storms is far south of the Chicago area, across central and southern Illinois.

Strong winds should continue through Thursday morning, although rain should clear out early Thursday.

Once the storm clears, temperatures will be much cooler, with a high of only about 52 on Thursday, and only the mid 40s on Friday.

Temperatures could dip into the mid 30s early Saturday, before climbing back into the 50s during the day, and then could flirt with 60 again on Sunday, with clear skies all through the weekend.
