Waukegan Police Pursue Serial Robbers

(CBS) – Waukegan police say a group of masked robbers struck multiple times Thursday.

In the first incident, at Butrick and Catalpa at 3:30 p.m., a young person was walking home from school when four masked men exited a black van and stole items from him.

Two and a half hours later, at Brookside Avenue and Edison Court, a man says he was approached by several masked men, also emerging from a black vehicle. The victim said a weapon was used.

The third robbery occurred 20 minutes later at Butrick and Lucia.

"We are investigating this as one larger incident," Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip says.

Waukegan police say the masked men were possibly in a vehicle stolen from a Home Depot parking lot. Authorities released a surveillance video of what could be two of the masked suspects.

On Friday, police took four juveniles into custody but said it was too early to say if they are suspects.
