Waukegan Middle School On Lockdown After False Gun Report As Protocol

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Waukegan Police said a middle school was on lockdown for awhile Monday morning after authorities were told someone with a gun was in the school.

Waukegan police received an anonymous call about 11:30 a.m. saying someone had entered Miguel Juarez Middle School with a gun, according to police.

Police Commander Joe Florip said officers searched the school and the threat was not bonafide. WBBM's Steve Miller reports.

As standard response, the school was placed on lockdown, until the incident was concluded. Waukegan School District 60 Spokesman Nicholas Alajakis said the lockdown lasted about 20 minutes, from about 11:40 a.m. to noon.

The incident was turned over to the WPD Criminal Investigations Division for follow up. The incident is being classified as false.
