Man pulled from Lake Michigan at 31st Street has died

A man is dead after being recovered from Lake Michigan at 31st Street Harbor in Chicago's Bronzeville neighborhood Monday afternoon.

Chicago police said around 1:55 p.m., their marine unit was called for reports of a person in the water. Video posted on the Citizen app showed a significant presence of first responders by the water.

CPD Marine Unit members could be seen descending long ladders that first responders had placed in the water on the far side of the breakwall, opposite to the docking area of the harbor.

Sources told CBS News Chicago the male was pulled unresponsive from the water and taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center. He later died at the hospital, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner's office.

The medical examiner identified him Tuesday as 23-year-old Bryan Nguyen, and ruled his drowning an accident.
