Water Main Break Floods Streets In Little Village

CHICAGO (CBS) -- A water main break in Little Village has left a virtual moat around almost an entire square block Tuesday morning.

A city spokesperson confirmed crews had been dispatched to repair a water main break near the intersection of Cermak Road and Lawndale Avenue, after it burst around 5:30 a.m., but the spokesperson could not provide further details.

At least one westbound lane of Cermak Road was flooded between Lawndale and Ridgeway avenues due to the water main break. Much of Lawndale and Ridgeway also were flooded between Cermak and Ogden Avenue.

Flooding from the water main break also reached all the way to the walls of a multi-unit residential building at the corner of Lawndale and Cermak.

One woman who parked her car at the scene overnight said she found water inside her car due to the flooding.

It was not immediately clear when repairs would be completed.
