Watch Out For Huge Potholes Along Rush Street Corridor
CHICAGO (CBS) -- Cars or bikes travelling through Maple and State Streets, the Rush Street corridor, should be on the lookout for what are being called "not your average potholes."
WBBM's Andy Dahn reports, they're more like two small craters, smack in the middle of the street in front of the popular restaurant Maple and Ash. Omar Casillas valets cars outside of the restaurant and says he's seen several incidents.
"I've seen a couple cars get damaged, their rims and tires," Casillas says." I saw a lady trip over them the other day, too."
Hostess Karyn Demchuk says the holes developed about a month ago, and were inspected and partially filled by city workers. But they've now widened and gotten worse, and Demchuk says many customers ask her when the dangerous holes will be fixed for good.
"I don't know those answers, like I don't know who's in charge of that, I don't know what jurisdiction is in charge of fixing that," Demchuck says. "But it is a safety issue and it needs to get fixed."
For now, city workers have spray painted smiley faces over the holes to warn drivers and bicyclists.
