Watch: Anthony Rizzo Climbs Tarp To Make Ridiculous Catch In Stands
(CBS) Cubs first baseman Anthony Rizzo didn't just submit a Sportscenter Top 10 lock of a play Wednesday evening. He also made what may be the defensive web gem of his career.
With the Cubs leading 2-1 in the top of the sixth with one out and a runner on first, Brewers outfielder Ryan Braun lifted a high pop fly into foul territory behind first base. As Rizzo tracked back and the ball drifted into the stands, he climbed on the tarp, gathered himself for a split second to get his timing right, then leaned into the stands to make a spectacular catch.
Rizzo fell right next to a guy wearing his jersey. Initially, it was ruled a no-catch by the umpires, but after conferring, they called Braun out and awarded Brewers runner Jonathan Lucroy second base because Rizzo left the field of play with a live ball.
