Man Charged In Fatal Washington Park Shootout

CHICAGO (STMW) -- An 18-year-old man has been charged with killing a 36-year-old man during a shootout Saturday afternoon in the South Side Washington Park neighborhood.

Kashai Jones, 18, and 36-year-old Deitrick Stogner were shooting at each other in the 100 block of West Garfield Boulevard about 1:20 p.m., according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.

Stogner was shot in the abdomen and taken to Stroger Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:24 p.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office. Stogner lived in the 4600 block of South Prairie.

Jones was shot in the left leg and taken to Stroger Hospital in good condition, police said. He was charged with one count of first-degree murder.

Jones, of the 1700 block of East 70th Street, was scheduled to appear in bond court Tuesday.
