Wary Of Zika Virus, Pau Gasol Will Consider Freezing Sperm Before Olympics

(CBS) Bulls center and Spanish star Pau Gasol will consider freezing a sperm sample if he chooses to participate in the Olympics because he's wary of the Zika virus in Rio de Janeiro, he told the Associated Press.

"Freezing sperm is one of the measures I have to consider," Gasol told the AP.

Gasol, 35, led Spain to silver medals at the 2008 and 2012 Olympics, with his squad falling to Team USA in the final each time. He hasn't confirmed yet whether he will again participate in the Olympics. He averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds for the Bulls last season. Gasol is expected to opt out of the final year of his contract and enter free agency.

Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that has been connected to birth defects in infants when the woman has been infected by Zika.
