Warmer Temperatures Ahead After Chilly Weekend

CHICAGO (CBS) -- After a crisp and cool weekend for Chicago, much warmer temperatures are on the horizon this week.

Temperatures didn't get past 58 degrees over the weekend, Chicago spent plenty of time with temperatures in the 30s and 40s.

Monday was bringing much warmer conditions, with temperatures expected to reach 60 in the late morning, and a high of about 71 by mid-afternoon.

However, strong winds were expected to pick up later in the morning and through the early evening, with a southwest wind increasing to 25 to 30 mph in the morning, and gusts of up to 40 mph possible. The combination of warm temperatures, low humidity, and high winds has prompted a fire weather warning from the National Weather Service, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

The warning means there is a danger any fires could spread rapidly; thanks to the warm, dry, and windy conditions.

Tuesday and Wednesday should be even warmer, with highs of up to 74, but winds won't be quite as strong. Both days also will bring a slight chance of showers, with thunderstorms possible Wednesday afternoon.

The end of the week will be cooler, with highs in the low 60s Thursday through Saturday.
