Scattered showers and rumbles of thunder are possible overnight in the Chicago area, with patchy fog in spots.
Gusty thunderstorms take shape mid-morning Sunday around 9 a.m., and continue to move northeast through 1 p.m. Downpours and small hail may accompany the stronger cells.
The main threat for severe storms on Sunday is still favoring the afternoon, starting around 2 p.m., with the possibility of large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes.
If clouds and showers linger from the morning round of storms, that might weaken some of the afternoon storms, especially north of Interstate 80. It all depends on how the atmosphere recovers from the morning storms.
The warmest air will build south of I-80, so that area is likely to have the stronger storms.
