Want A Chance To Win A Yugo? Serbfest Has You Covered

Listen to How To Win A 1988 Yugo

(CBS) -- The 24th Serbfest is going on this weekend on the Northwest Side, and this year at the fundraising raffle, the bonus prize is a much-maligned blast from the past.

Serbfest Co-Chairman Goran Davidovac says raffle ticket sales have gone up 10 percent to 15 percent once people found out the bonus prize: a 1988 Yugo.

The Yugo was car produced by the former Yugoslavia, now Serbia. It was a car that was cheap to buy, but often disastrous as a form of dependable transportation.

Davidovac says they're raffling off the Yugo, sort of tongue-in-cheek.

One of the jokes about the car, he says, has to do with a heater for the back window: "It's to keep your hands warm as you're pushing the Yugo. That tells you everything right there."

Davidovac says he's wanted to raffle off a Yugo for several years. He says, believe it or not, they're hard to come by.

He says it reminds older generations of Serbs of a simpler time.
