Visitation Held For 9-Year-Old Chicago Boy Who Was Lured To His Death

(CBS) – A visitation was held Monday for Tyshawn Lee, the 9 year-old-boy police say was lured to his death and then executed.

By late afternoon, dozens of people had stopped by to pay their respects at Haven of Rest Missionary Baptist Church in the South Chicago neighborhood.

Many of the mourners were Tyshawn's friends and family members, but some never met the little boy.

Tyshawn's mother, Karla Lee, brought a basketball that was later placed in her son's casket. Lee collapsed a few times and had to be held up by her father before she took a seat.

Nesha Mathis brought her son.

"He didn't deserve it," she told CBS 2's Mai Martinez. "He has nothing to do with what's going on out here in the streets. He's a child."

Police say Tyshawn's killer was trying to get at Tyshawn's family members, who have alleged gang ties. The reward to find the killer has risen to more than $50,000.

Police may be near to making an arrest, Martinez reports.
