Oakwood Hills Village Hall Remains Closed Over Threats

(CBS) -- Police in the McHenry County village of Oakwood Hills say they have not made arrests yet - and the village clerk's office is still closed after threats came in against the village board and other officials, reports WBBM's Steve Miller.

Oakwoods Hills Village President Melanie Funk describes the threats as unnerving.

Funk says he has extra protection and is not sure how long the clerk's office will be closed. The decision to close was made late last week after the threats were made related to a controversial proposal to build a power plant in the village.

"It saddens me that those are the kinds of things that happened in a community and just like there are people that object this there are people that are for who come to me and they are afraid to say anything because they are afraid of retaliation because it has been very vicious here," Funk said.

The village also canceled its monthly village board meeting that was set for Thursday.

Residents tell CBS 2's Brad Edwards they still want to be heard.

"We're not vicious people we just want the right thing done," said Jennifer Frey.

A vote on the plant is set to take place in October.
