VIDEO: Vandal Knocks Over Menorah On NU Campus

EVANSTON, Ill. (STMW) -- Evanston police released a surveillance video Friday, hoping to learn the identity of a person who pushed over a menorah outside a Jewish center at Northwestern University.

The incident happened at 4:22 a.m. May 16, outside the Tannenbaum Chabad House in the 2000 block of Orrinton Avenue, Evanston police said in a statement.

In a YouTube video posted by the department, two people are seen walking outside the building, and one pushes over a menorah that stands in the front yard.

Officials are classifying the incident as criminal damage to property incident, and there are no indications it is hate-related, Evanston police said in the statement.

Tannenbaum Chabad House is a "home away from home" for Jewish students at Northwestern, and hosts religious services and community events, according to its website.

Police are asking the public's help to identify the suspect in the surveillance video. Anyone with information is asked to contact Evanston police at (847) 866-5000 or text a tip to 274637 with the words "EPD TIP."
