VIDEO: Suspect Attacks Cop Who Would Not Fire Gun In Self-Defense

(CBS) -- Two Chicago police officers were commended for not using their guns when apprehending a violent suspect on the West Side Oct. 5.

Graphic police dash-cam video of that incident was released on Friday.

The video shows the male and female officers confronting 28-year-old Parta Huff after his car crashed into a liquor store near Cicero and Roosevelt.

Huff continues to ignores the officer's commands. Other officers arrive and help subdue the suspect as a crowd gathers and the police end up in a heap with Huff on the ground.

Another officer deployed a Taser on Huff for the third time.

The female officer briefly lost consciousness after her head was slammed to the ground and suffered other injuries. The second officer also suffered a concussion, a broken right thumb and other injuries.

Chicago Police Supt. Eddie Johnson said the female officer didn't shoot  Huff because of fears of a public backlash.
