Video Shows CTA Passenger Trying To Set Himself On Fire

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Dramatic video has been released of a struggle and fire aboard a Red Line train on Chicago's North Side last month.

It happened at the Argyle Stop around 5:15 p.m. Jan. 18. That's when David Ferguson, 28, allegedly threatened to light himself on fire using paint thinner from a can.

Surveillance video aboard the train – from different angles – shows an officer trying to defuse the situation before he tries to kick the can of paint thinner away from the passenger.

Officers rush Ferguson and pull him off the train car just as a wall of flame erupts.

At one point, you can see one officer's shoes on fire.  At least one officer received medical treatment after the incident.

Ferguson was arrested and charged with aggravated arson and aggravated battery to a peace officer and transit employee.

No passengers were injured in the incident.

CBS 2 submitted a Freedom of Information requests to obtain the video.
