Victory Auto Wreckers Looking For New TV Commercial

CHICAGO (CBS) -- That old car is worth money, and now so is a new spin on a classic commercial.

The iconic Victory Auto Wreckers television commercial turns 30 this spring, and the company is looking to have a little fun by holding a contest for aspiring directors to film a new ad.

The 30-second spot has been a staple on late-night TV on and off for three decades.

While the announcer and the phone number have changed over the years, the script has been virtually the same, and Victory has been using the same video since 1985.

The commercial shows Victory employee Bob Zajdel opening the door of a rusty old 1973 Chevy, when the door falls completely off the car. A tow truck driver hands Zajdel a fanned-out stack of $20 bills before hauling off the car.

Zajdel, of Villa Park, was an employee of Victory Auto Wreckers when the commercial was made.

Now the company is seeking video submissions for a new commercial – either a takeoff of the classic ad, or an entirely new promo.

The winner of the contest will get $500, along with bragging rights. Entries must be uploaded to YouTube by the end of the day on Feb. 7, and a winner will be announced on Feb. 10.

Full contest rules are available here.
