Vertical Farming Company Partners With Indiana University To Create Course On Sustainable Farming

(CBS) -- A vertical farming company in Portage called Greensense helped create a course at Indiana University South Bend on the future of sustainable farming.

IUSB Professor Mike Keen, director of sustainability studies, says the class combined science, business and art.

"We both need each other. The university needs to have the real world to try out the ideas we're developing but the real world and business needs us to be able to have the kind of time to do some experimentation and take risks."

Professor Keen says vertical farming supplements field farming and can fill the gap to produce herbs and greens that local farmers can't produce in winter.

Greensense in Portage, Indiana is the largest vertical farm in the U.S.
