Vernon Hills Woman Charged With Setting Park Garbage Can On Fire

CHICAGO (STMW) -- A north suburban woman has been charged with setting fire to a garbage can in a park near her Vernon Hills home Thursday morning.

Officers were called to Augusta Park, 210 Augusta Drive, after a pedestrian saw a garbage can in the park on fire, according to a statement from Vernon Hills police.

After extinguishing the fire with a squad vehicle fire extinguisher, officers went to the home of Stephanie M. Wollar, 28, in the 400 block of Albany Lane, police said.

Wollar's home is in the same neighborhood as the park, and she had been previously charged with starting a fire in a Vernon Hills park in November, police said.

The investigation resulted in a class 4 felony charge of criminal damage to government property against Wollar, police said. She is expected to appear in bond court Friday.
