Vehicle Flips After Striking L Support Beam, 2 Seriously Hurt

(STMW) -- A man and a woman were seriously hurt after the SUV they were in crashed, hit a CTA support beam and flipped over Friday afternoon on the Near North Side.

The crash happened about 2:40 p.m. near the intersection of Ontario and Franklin streets, Fire Media Affairs Director Larry Langford said.

A silver-colored SUV involved in the accident eventually crashed in to a CTA support beam in the area and flipped over, Langford said.

A man and woman inside that vehicle--who were wearing seatbelts--had to be extricated, Langford said. Their exact ages were not known, but Langford said one of the injured is about 60 and the other 80.

Both were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition, Langford said.

The people in a second SUV involved in the accident were not injured.
