Urban League To Host Forum Asking For Community Input On Selecting New Chicago Police Superintendent
(CBS) -- The Chicago Urban League wants residents to have a say in selecting the next Chicago Police superintendent, reports WBBM's Keith Johnson.
The Chicago Urban League is inviting citizens to share their views on what Chicago's next police superintendent should do to win back the public's trust, a trust shattered with the release of the Laquan McDonald video.
Urban League interim president Shari Runner says the next police chief must be culturally aware of Chicago's landscape.
"I don't know if that person necessarily has to be inside the police department right now but they need to understand the issues and problems that Chicago brings, its unique segregated communities, the things that are important to Chicagoans and how we act and react in the city of Chicago," Runner said.
The community input session will be held Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Kennedy King College. The session will include members of the Chicago Police board.
