CHICAGO (CBS) -- With the first measurable snow of the season forecast for this weekend, City Hall has rolled out a new online tool to help Chicago residents keep track of the city's fleet of snow plows.

WBBM Newsradio Political Editor Craig Dellimore reports a new version of Plow Tracker is one of the features on the city's ChicagoShovels.org website. It allows residents to follow snow plows along their routes.

Molly Poppe, spokeswoman for the Department of Streets & Sanitation, said the Plow Tracker website has been around since 2012, but has been updated with a better look, and more information.

"It'll be easier to read, it'll be a larger map, as well as they'll see if they zoom in they can search for their address," she said. "If I live on Belmont, I can see that the plow is not only on Belmont, but the direction it's heading on Belmont," she said.

The city activates the Plow Tracker website whenever it sends out plows, which it likely will do this weekend.

The forecast calls for 1 to 3 inches of snow Saturday evening and Saturday night.
