Up To 2 Inches Of Lake Effect Snow Expected Monday

(CBS) -- Chicago could get 1 to 2 inches of lake effect snow on Monday.

Flakes likely will begin falling late Monday morning along the lakefront. According to the National Weather Service, an accumulation of about an inch is expected quickly in Lake and Cook counties in Illinois, and Porter and Lake counties in Indiana.

Within an hour or two of the start of the snow showers, the precipitation should fall off to only light snowfall, or even flurries, with only minor accumulations in the afternoon.

By evening, accumulations could be up to two inches along the lakefront.

Further inland, overall accumulations are expected to be less than an inch.

The high temperature will reach about 31 on Monday.

Tuesday will be slightly colder, but clear. A mild trend begins later in the week, with highs in the upper 30s Wednesday and Thursday, and then in the low 40s Friday and Saturday.

The end of the week also will bring plenty of rain, with showers likely to persist most of the day Friday and Saturday.
