UMKC Pulls Away Early In 2nd, Beats Chicago State

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — LaVell Boyd scored 22 points to lead Missouri-Kansas City to a 78-64 victory over Chicago State on Saturday, snapping a five-game losing streak.

Boyd made five 3-pointers and finished 8 of 14 from the field. Kyle Steward added 12 points and a career-best 11 rebounds, and Grant Leach scored a career-high 12 points for the Kangaroos (9-13, 2-5 Western Athletic Conference), who shot 51 percent on 25-of-49 shooting.

Fred Sims Jr. scored 26 points to lead Chicago State (4-20, 0-7).

Boyd opened the second half with a 3, sparking a 19-9 run to stretch Missouri-Kansas City's five-point halftime lead to 59-45 with 10 minutes left, and the Kangaroos had a double-digit lead the rest of the way. Boyd scored seven points, Leach added two 3-pointers, and Chicago State made just 3 of 15 shots and had three turnovers during the stretch.
