UIC Study Highlights High Unemployment Among Black, Hispanic Youth

(CBS) -- A University of Illinois Chicago study delivers a sobering assessment on job prospects for Chicago's teenagers of color.

The study says Chicago leads the nation in joblessness and out of school teens and young adults.

"The statistics, unfortunately, haven't gotten any better," said Shari Runner, president and CEO of the Chicago Urban League. "We're looking at 80 to 90 percent of black and brown youth unemployed in the city."

Runner says the new data also shows jobless rates for youth 20 to 24 are concentrated, with the highest on the South and West sides and lowest on the North, Northwest and Southwest sides of Chicago.
