UIC Student Sexually Assaulted At Near West Side Residence Hall

(STMW) -- A University of Illinois at Chicago student was sexually assaulted last week in a residence hall on the school's Near West Side campus.

The assault happened about 2 a.m. Thursday in the residence hall at 600 S. Halsted St., according to a crime alert posted to the university's website.

The suspect, who is not affiliated with UIC, was described as a black man between 6-foot-3 and 6-foot-4, 180 to 190 pounds with a muscular build and a light complexion, according to the alert. He was wearing a white t-shirt and dark sweatpants.

The victim knew the suspect through a mutual friend, according to the alert.

"The university is providing resources to assist the victim and will continue to take actions to maintain the safety and security of the campus community," according to the alert.
