Two Suffer Chemical Burns At UIC College Prep

CHICAGO (CBS) -- Two students were being taken to hospitals after suffering chemical burns at a Near West Side school.

A Fire Department spokesperson said two people were being transported John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of cook County in stable condition, after suffering chemical burns at UIC College Preparatory High School, at 1231 S. Damen Av.

CBS 2's Suzanne Le Mignot reports both victims are students who were in the chemistry lab on the 3rd floor of the school when they were burned. Although their injuries were not serious, they did require medical treatment.

The Fire Department could not immediately provide information on what caused the student's burns, but according to unconfirmed dispatch reports, there was a fire in a chemistry lab at the school.

Officials at UIC College Prep and Noble Network of Charter Schools could not immediately provide further information.
