Two Shot On Near West Side

CHICAGO (STMW) -- Two teenagers were shot Tuesday morning while waiting to board a CTA bus on the Near West Side.

The shooting happened at a bus stop in the 2400 block of West Jackson Boulevard at 9:55 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Jose Estrada said.

The boy and girl, both 15, were taken to Stroger Hospital, where their conditions had stabilized, police said. The boy was shot in the abdomen and was in serious condition; and the girl was shot in the leg and arm.

Someone fired shots in the pair's direction from the sidewalk before running off, police said.

A woman, who did not want to be identified, said she was on the bus on her phone when the shooting happened.

She said four people were waiting to get on the bus when the fourth person in line—a male—opened fire on two others.

The woman, who is visiting from downstate, said both teens started hollering for their parents after they were shot.

"Everybody was screaming on the bus," she said.

A westbound No. 126 bus was stopped at Jackson and Western Avenue when the shooting happened on the sidewalk, CTA spokeswoman Catherine Hosinski said.

As of 11:05 a.m., the bus remained stopped near the intersection and all passengers remained onboard.

No. 126 buses were rerouted in both directions in the area immediately after the shooting, according to the CTA.
